It is evident that Friedman is either clueless or clever enough to know what his employers want him to say. In both cases, he proves his irrelevance to any real discussion of outsourcing and US job loss.

Friedman may be a reflection of the liberal bias of his employer, to be sure. But you have not shown that he is clueless. I think you may have missed part of the subtler message that the export of American call center jobs might be a more cost-effective measure in preventing terrorism than so-called democracy-building exercises in Iraq.

Shedding jobs is something that modernizing economies do all the time. There are resulting dislocations, but they are manageable. The trade-offs are generally worthwhile.

My job doesn't have fancy benefits either. That gives me the incentive to raise my personal savings rate.

call center jobs: avg salary 21 K or so. is that a low wage job?
