JDN, where would the survivors insurance come from if that was done. SS is more than a retirement program. It is an insurance benefit for the survivors of those workers who die young.

Believe me, I don't even come close to thinking the gov't is better at managing my future than I am. That's why I would give up my 26 years worth of contributions just to get out.

I like (not) how the dems want lower income people to get a break on SS in addition to paying NO FED INCOME TAXES, and then belly ache when it looks like there is not enough money to meet future obligations. More socialist redistribution of wealth.
