1. BUY a anti-virus program and don't go with cheapies or free for a month. beyond that, others can probably help better. larry

tomato,

1. mcafee is not a real product. only use norton. i'd go to norton and use their free, temporary anti-virus product.

2. i'd also try to defrag since it sounds like you may have pointer issues, although you may already be too far gone at this point. go to start; programs; accessories; system tools; disk defragmenter; defragment

3. for future reference, as soon as weird things begin to happen, try to get help immediately. weird things beget more weird things, as i've learned the hard way.

4, you do have a backup system for your important documents, right?

with the disclaimer that i am not a technician, following my advice may yield unpredictable results, as ibm likes to say.

With all that going on, it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to start new. I don't like the sounds you are getting. Could be a dying hard drive.
