I merely presented a report of a covert action. That you are incapable of seeing that is all so very revealing about yourself. Oh well, I suppose you have a one-tracked mind! Or could be it something else you are not aware of???

The Soviet Union collapsed, not so much because of Reagan's efforts, but because it was basically weak any way. Did you know that for a long time prior to the Soviet Union's collapse in 1989/90, Alexander Solzenitzin of "Gulag" fame had pointed out to the US that the Soviet Union could collapse quickly if only the US stopped exporting wheat and extending loans to the Soviets? The unpalatable truth is that the Soviet Union lasted as long as it did as a consequence of unwarranted morbid fear and the "aid" the US gave to its "enemy". Remember Charansky, the anti-Soviet dissident?

But why didn't the US listen? Simply because the US was morbidly afraid, and quite unnecessarily so,IMMHO. The US was afraid of the Soviets' cozy relationship with the "Yellow Peril". By giving "aid" (a Greek Gift actually) to the Soviets, the US had hoped that in the event of a serious confrontation with the Chinese/Soviets, many Soviets would swing towards the US.

I was not ridiculing anyone. That's just your perception. Displaying that "how-can-I-be-wrong" syndrome" again, eh? Oh well, suit yourself! But, ah! your mindset reminds me of Dubya's "Either-you-are-with-us-or- against-us" arrogance that vastly eroded the support the US has had soon after 9/11.
