Yes, Islam is very respectful of Judaism and Christianity ("People of the Book"). Thus, it not surprising that Middle Eastern Jews were treated very well at the same time that European Jews were being persecuted.

No, I don't think so. And I can find no evidence they survived in Arabia (except in Yemen) after Mohammed's time.
