Yes, Islam is very respectful of Judaism and Christianity ("People of the Book"). Thus, it not surprising that Middle Eastern Jews were treated very well at the same time that European Jews were being persecuted.

You're saying the Jews and Christians which pre-existed Islam were not removed from central Arabia in Mohammed's time - but only later when Wahhabism came to power in SA?

No, I don't think so. And I can find no evidence they survived in Arabia (except in Yemen) after Mohammed's time.
