Absolutely, I understand there is a middle ground. I was just offering a binary perspective for the right-wingers who have flocked to this thread. -g-

I think a start would be for Israel to go back to the 1967 borders - and build the entire border fence there, and unilaterally recognize a Palestinian state - be the first to do this.

This would not be a unilateral move by Israel. The Palestinians unilaterally recognized Israel in 1988, they are just waiting for Israel to return the gesture. As for the 1967 borders, the Palestinians and the rest of the Arab world has been offering Israel FULL recognition and peace based on the 1967 borders for about 30 years now. The first formal offer was in 1971 by Egypt, and then in 1976 by the entire Arab world.

The Clinton plan was probably the best that has been put forward to date - with it's many shortcomings and compromises by all. A shame it wasn't accepted by Arafat.

What about Barak? He didn't accept the Clinton plan, and he is the one who unilaterally broke off negotiations.

P.S. It is worth repeating that intermarriage is illegal in Israel, but not in the U.S.
