"We find it difficult to see how investors could fare badly in Intel this week, or indeed, for the next several months, said Merrill Lynch's Joe Osha in his preview of the mid-quarter update.

Osha said he expects the company will hold the mid-point of its previously set revenue range but thinks the company could produce better gross margins

Banc of America's John Lau, meanwhile, said he believes the softness in notebook PCs was largely due to an overbuild situation exiting January

As for the upcoming update, Lau believes Intel may narrow its first quarter revenue guidance to the mid-point or slightly below the $8.2 billion midpoint
