I would not read too much into the timing of Novak's column. He generally publishes columns on Monday, Thursday and Saturday. He probably feels that Tuesday is the Last Hurrah for Edwards' candidacy and wanted to get it out before then. Probably planted by the Kerry people.

I do think that Edwards would have been a more formidable candidate against Bush. Kerry was a lengthy back story that is not going to play well with a lot of people.

Kerry may still put Edwards on the ticket, though my guess is that he goes with Richardson. If he puts Edwards on the ticket, that would give him a head start on Hillary in 2008.
