the missing link is new oil fields in Asia and the potential of methane hydrates which IMHO is renewable energy.

Now add to that the issue of nuclear power which will be accepted again and solar power which can be produced in vast quantities and economically at present energy prices in subtropical deserts. After all "transporting" electricity is cheaper than transporting "oil".

The problem IMHO is the oil lobby which inhibits the development of new energy sources
