Washington Drops Bomb on Landmine Ban

Makes you proud, doesn't it?

Al, and yet, they keep telling us that we are peace loving country and that Bush is a devoted man of God and JC's teachings. Where is the accountability? Where is the practice what I preach? What happens to all that religious fervor?

Forget God, the reality is that its do what I say, not as I do.

Al,

re:Makes you proud, doesn't it?

Why does each presidency put this off?

Clinton's rejection of the December 1997 land mine treaty was particularly disgraceful because the 1997 Nobel Peace Prize had gone to Jody Williams of Vermont and her grass-roots coalition that pressed for the banning of these inhumane devices.

"Proud" is too strong of word but I agree with the policy.

"...not sign the treaty, that it would push back the date to eliminate some mines to 2010, and would retain the right to use other "smart" mines indefinitely. But Washington also promised to boost funding for global anti-mine activities for 2005 by 50 percent over 2003 levels."

Even before the 50 percent increase we spend a lot more then any country on mine removal.
