<In order for gold to be the commodity many want it to be, new technology needs to be employed....that technology would increase the useage of gold vis a vis currency and in particular the dollar.>

Industrial use of gold is up, one only needs to look inside a pc to see all the gold plated contacts on such items as memory sockets, pci cards and slots etc..On average 4-5 grams of gold can be recovered from 10 lbs of circuit board.

Gold is also used in telephones and most people have seen gold plated contacts on quality audio/vidio cables.

20 years ago you didn't see this level of gold usage in consumer electronics.

Today there is a small but growing niche industry of gold recovery and reclaiming of circuit boards and other items.
But the fact is that most electronics end up in garbage dumps and what ever treasures that can be reclaimed are lost forever.
