Kids! :-) Not much academic was accomplished the remainder of the day. Yeah. I remember that. Once the news was out, the rest of the day was wasted. Nobody, including the teachers, could concentrate. To my mind, that day probably marked what was to be the real and true end of the carefree 50s I remember all the whining and moaning about lack of interest in politics by the populace back then - almost entirely by the Left. They preferred the Vietnam War? Watergate? The impeachment? 911? Iraq? Their only real complaint was the populace did not agree with their extreme views. That "complacency" meant that the populace didn't seriously disagree with the gov't- -a situation that would change later.
