This apparently, is word for word what was written in a DOE website on Iraq that has since changed. Iraq also contains 110 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, and is a focal point for regional and international security issues." usgovinfo.about.com Which means that you got this statement from a website that either quoted or plagerized an out of date DOE analysis. In any case, I doubt that it was a website belonging to OPEC.org (as I did a google search, of the quote, and found no OPEC.org listed - if you can really find the quote from an official OPEC website, my apologies). This DOE statement was revised in 2002 and now reads: "Iraq is estimated to hold more than 112 billion barrels of proven oil reserves, and possibly much more undiscovered oil in unexplored areas of the country. Iraq also is estimated to contain at least 110 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. The country is a focal point for regional and international security issues." Notice that the statement "world's second largest proven reserves" has been removed - as Canada is now listed as having the second largest proven petroleum reserves.
