I agree, we need to wait for facts.

From what I know, it seems fairly clear that if Aristide had stayed in Haiti, he would be dead by now. Along with a considerable number of other Haitians.

I think your analysis is probably right -- that he's trying to save face, and stir up what remaining supporters he might have inside and outside Haiti.

We probably should have just let the rebels kill him. It would have saved us this contretemps.
