It also doesn't take into account that some countries with smaller populations will probably work more cooperatively to find alternative ways to deal with an abrupt climate change. Some places are already building towards self-sufficiency in energy created by solar or wind-power, geo-thermal power, etc... Smaller, forward-thinking, agile countries might not be as hard hit as stubborn nations that are determined to try to maintain a lifestyle status quo based on massive oil consumption.
