Ten,

re: Why is the "mainstream media" acting like this has already been proven beyond a reasonable doubt?

That wasn't the mainstream media, and I don't think the mainstream media is acting like it is proven beyond a reasonable doubt. They are acting like it is mighty suspicious that nobody remembers a person from a very prominent family being around, for a year. In a court of law the burden of proof wouldn't be on Bush, but in the court of politics it would certainly be helpful if he could produce a witness. His press secretary said they would if they could; they can't.

To me it's not that big an issue. He was avoiding Vietnam, which a whole bunch of folks were doing at the same time. He had the pull to get out of doing the National Guard stuff, and I'm sure there were 1000's more like him. The only reason it's an issue is the contrast with Kerry.

But it is sort of obnoxous when he does his John Wayne war President immitation stuff.

John

JF, this isn't the main point of the article, but I still find it outrageous:

Others bristle at Bush receiving favored treatment to get into the Guard and then not showing up for duty the last year of his obligation.

I have still not seen one shred of proof that Bush was AWOL in his last year of service. All I see are accusations, more accusations, and calls for Bush to prove otherwise.

The reason you see accusations, accusations and more accusations is because Bush can't prove he was there. A month ago, I read an article that said this issue would go away......that it didn't have 'legs'. I agreed. Both the article and I were wrong.........the issue has 'legs' because it looks like Mr. Bush did flake out.

You are what you are and the truth eventually wins out!

Why is the "mainstream media" acting like this has already been proven beyond a reasonable doubt?

Mainstream? This is another Rep. making the accusation.

Bush's image has been badly tarnished; the more honest Republicans are beginning to question their support. Clearly, Mr. Webb has already reached a conclusion.
