It is not a question of a job for life, but a life in which rough edges are smoothed out.

So how do you propose to smooth out the edges. I've always favored extended unemployment insurance for those who have been unceremoniously dumped by changing currents in the world. But I noticed the other day that folks here were putting that down, too. I would also support tax deductions for training. Most companies offer outplacement assistance. I favor that, too. Are those edges still too rough for you? Perhaps you'd prefer to throw in with those who think folks wait until their unemployment insurance runs out before looking for a job.

P.S. I wasn't demeaning the steelworker. I faulted the system.
