Not as amusing as this...
I like this one mo'betta...

How to Be a Democrat:
You have to believe there was no art before federal funding.

You have to believe that the same public school idiot who can't teach 4th graders how to read is qualified to teach those same kids about sex.

You have to believe the AIDS virus is spread by a lack of funding.

You have to believe that guns in the hands of law-abiding Americans are more of a threat than nuclear weapons in the hands of North Korea.

You have to believe that global temperatures are less affected by cyclical, documented changes in the brilliance of the Sun, and more affected by yuppies driving SUVs.

You have to be against capital punishment but pro abortion on demand -- in short, you support protecting the guilty and killing the innocent.

You have to believe that businesses create oppression and governments create prosperity.

You have to believe that hunters don't care about nature, but pasty, loony activists who've never been outside Seattle do.

You have to believe that self-esteem is more important than actually doing something to earn it.

You have to believe the military, not corrupt politicians, start wars.

You have to believe the free market that gives us 500+ channels can't deliver the quality that PBS does.

You have to believe the NRA is bad, because they stand up for certain parts of the Constitution, while the ACLU is good, because they stand up for certain parts of the Constitution.

You have to believe that taxes are too low, but ATM fees are too high.

You have to believe that Harriet Tubman, Cesar Chavez and Gloria Steinem are more important to American history than Thomas Jefferson, General Robert E.Lee or Thomas Edison.

You have to believe that standardized tests are racist, but racial quotas and set-asides aren't.

You have to believe conservatives are racists, but that black people couldn't make it without your help.

You have to believe that the only reason socialism hasn't worked anywhere it's been tried, is because the right people haven't been in charge.

Things you must believe to remain a Republican today:
a. Being a drug addict is a moral failing and a crime

Some Republicans believe that, others do not. I think its a crime in the sense that it is illegal, but I don't really think the "war on drugs" has turned out to be a good thing. On libertarian principle I'd normally be against laws against drugs. If making them illegal had huge benefits I might be willing to go along with it but it appears that the costs probably exceed any benefit.

b. The United States should get out of the United Nations, and our highest national priority is enforcing U.N. resolutions against Iraq.

Most Republicans don't think the US should get out of the UN. Even for those who do, they could support enforcing the UN resolutions because they support the ideas behind them not because they support whatever the UN says just because the UN says it.

Government should limit or totally eliminate legal liability of corporations

"eliminate" isn't an issue for almost anyone. Limit yes.

"Standing Tall for America" means firing your workers and moving their jobs to India

No real connection from this idea to the Republican party.

A woman can't be trusted with decisions about her own body

and someone else's

multinational corporations can make decisions affecting all mankind without regulation.

Nope. Republican does not equal libertarian, and even libertarian does not equal anarchist.

Jesus loves you, and shares your hatred of homosexuals

Being against same sex "marriage" isn't the same thing as hating homosexuals.

g. The best way to improve military morale is to praise the troops in speeches while slashing veterans' benefits and combat pay.

You'd have to look pretty hard to find anyone that would support that statement. Also veterans benefits have not been slashed.

HMOs and insurance companies have the interest of the public at heart.

As much as politicians do...

Providing health care to all Iraqis is sound policy.

Please point me to the Republican party statement that the US should fund a socialized national health care system for Iraq.

Global warming and tobacco's link to cancer are junk science, but creationism should be taught in schools.

Nope. Global warming isn't junk science (although "Massive increases in temperature do to CO2 emissions are going to happen any day now and cause a horrible disaster unless we implemented the Kyoto treaty" is). Tobaccos link to cancer is very solid science. Creationism isn't science.

Saddam was a good guy when Reagan armed him

Nope, neither was Stalin when the US provided a much larger amount of aid to him.

A president lying about an extramarital affair is an impeachable offense.

No but a president committing perjury is.

Government should limit itself to the powers named in the Constitution, which include banning gay marriages and censoring theInternet.

Clever. The government doesn't have the power under the constitution to sanction gay marriage either... Also the courts are part of the government. The real question is should the legislature make laws on such social issues or should it be decided, perhaps for the whole country, by state judges. As for censoring the Internet. I'm strongly against censorship in general. OTOH most liberals and even many libertarians would support censorship of things like kiddy porn.

The public has a right to know about Hillary's cattle trades, but George Bush's record of intimate dealings with Enron, Halliburton and the Carlyle Group is none of our business

Hillary's "trades" look more like a bribe then anything Bush did. Also "intimate dealings" begs the question, unless your asserting you already have the information.

What Bill Clinton did in the 1960s is of vital national interest, but what Bush did in the '80s is irrelevant

No

Tim
