You make an interesting point. Let me clarify my grandparents approach to the harbor of New York. I.e., they didn't have guns pointed at them nor warrants for their arrest and deportation immediately at hand.

How's that? :)

This is the "we are all immigrants" argument used shut down discussion of America's immigration problem.

The country belongs to US citizens - it is in effect collective private property. Soverignty means citizens get to decide who gets in. What is best economically is a different discussion.

There are alternatives....

Some of my ancestors handled immigration issues by killing (and possibly marrying) native americans.

About 600 years prior to that (1066), they handled the issues by killing Anglo-Saxons, and reducing many of them to vassalage.

Prior to that, my ancestors did some bad things....
