War by trade war just as simple - military those countries do not measure up to the US might so they will hold enough US treasuries as a bargaining chip in any dispute in the future.

Much cheaper and better than building and training a military force and spend money on hardware and maintenance.

Treasury paper has defined residual value, can be hedged and yields an income and does not need maintenance except cutting coupons

IMHO I think that the US is realizing this and therefore AG comments
