Can India and China grow their economies so that they become the dominant players on the world economic stage?...Put me down as a vote for "doubtful" for one reason -- energy

i totally agree and have made that same argument many times. oil is going to be a very scarce resource and energy-dependent civilization will collapse before per-capita consumption of hydrocarbons can reach the levels needed for China and India to achieve "first world" status. but try telling that to the likes of Jim Rogers or other China Pollyannas, LOL. they think new energy sources will spring up like magic pixie dust, or the Chinese will use their "ingenuity" to overtake the world. they may rule the world, but only after after a post-peak-oil, probably post-nuclear-holocaust, armageddon. a pyrrhic victory, methinks.
