"Too close to call right now"

Not for me. I remember MicroChannel and OS2. IBM's attempt to tie everyone to IBM

I remember Borland and DBaseIV. Thinking that all they needed was the equivalent of dbase, spread sheet and wordproscessor.

I remember WordPerfectCorp and TaskSwitcher.

Sunw sells hardware BECAUSE in the past it has bundled very good software with (read: 'that only runs on') proprietary software.

The business plan does not work long term in this environment.

Or, as Bob Dylan would say, "The Pump don't work, 'cuz the vandals took the handles." (from Highway 61 Revisited)

This rebound is for real and is showing results (to startups) so would expect this to tickle into Q1 reports, since startups tend to lead a recovery.

Now the biggest risk is this: Fast-rising Gas Prices Set Records in 2 States (USA TODAY)
news.yahoo.com

Remember what happened the last time gas prices increased during the summer of July 2000?

(I recall John Fowler's July 2000 post commenting about how consumers won't be able to spend money on products if higher gas prices consume their money - his post was a prelude to the downturn.)
