Income gets taxed in the owners hand so why do the liberals want to shoot themselves in the foot? My thoughts but
1) unlike dividends, not double taxed.
2) Many are owned by US residents so what happens to the taxes ? ( I dunno) Anyway I'm out for now, shoulder season is a coming anyway.. Cash feels good

Further on trusts, just stumbled on this, presume Sandy MacIntyre(sp)(accountant) penned it,..

Thank you for your interest in Sentry Select.
The issues discussed in Today’s Globe and Mail have been talked about periodically for some time. We have included some comments in Diversified Income Trust’s 2002 annual report page 6.

Today’s article was written in a speculative fashion and it concluded that Ottawa will likely do nothing. There are several considerations that lessen the likelihood of changes to the current structure:

Tax rates at the individual level are higher than the corporate level
Most of the companies that converted to trusts didn’t pay or paid minimal taxes
This is really deferred taxation, not leakage
Taxes are paid on the trading of the securities, a source of government revenue that did not exist before some privately held businesses converted to publicly traded securities
The tax loss to the government is very small in relative terms
