I do not follow Proxim. I think AFCI is very well established both for FTTC via Marconi and FTTPH via AccesMax. Throw in DSL and game over. I hold a lot of AFCI. The other player that is emerging is Cien via Catena. They have all the RBOC's as customers.

I never go with the service providers. For VOIP, my play is AMCC. Every NT passport switch has a AMCC chip. Passport is used for VOIP topologies. JNPR/CSCO all are supplied by AMCC.
PMCS/VTSS are out of the WAN space, and only in the metro/access. AMCC is also in the access space. So, to me 802.a or b or g is insignificant. The chip guys are going to make money on the last mile. VOIP it is again the chip guys/router players. For FTTP/H/C AFCI/ALA/CIEN are good bets. I have all except ALA... Immi
