It appeared to me that you were only considering whether a very PARTICULAR ideology could be justified. If your position is that ONE of the thousands of conflicting God Stories MIGHT be true, then you and I have no disagreement. But if you have some particular reason to assert Truth for one while dismissing thousands of others--well...then we are discussing your basis for such a particular and dismissive position."How insulting that a god might presume to ask us to make a sacrifice (animals, or "obedience" to anything but ourselves for that matter. But let's not get into all that, really. It was just part of the example.) " I would like to know what you are suggesting? Ought we to have no value judgments for or against certain behaviours? Do we address the question of "God" without any basic parameters of right and wrong?"Apparently there is no way to distinguish between any literature on the topic of god that exhibits mythological aspects " I disagree. One can use reason to distinguish. One can question the facts of the case just as one does in a Court of Law. There are many many things which are accepted as fact by 99.9 per cent of educated people because they are evidenced to a degree which satisfies rational assessment. You and I don't disagree that Lincoln lived, do we? We don't disagree that cars burn gas, do we? Do you think I have any reason to disagree with you on anything, Mike--INCLUDING JESUS--if it seems to be evidenced? Why would I? But if you wish to pick one God out of thousands and dismiss the rest...then I would like to know how those other people are suddenly irrational or deluded...whatever the case may be. Because, Mike...if you are right...then all those Muslims and Buddhists, and Hindus, and Sikhs, and thousands of Christian sects are WRONG. But of course they all think they are right. So Solon is the bad guy from every direction, eh? Yes, thank you for that acknowledgment. The long walk WAS an ordeal. My knees are swollen and I can barely stand. And I am on the wrong side of fifty, so one does not recover so quickly...
