I don't think the "war on terror" actually exists. A war is something with a beginning and an end ... what we are experiencing has neither. Did the Cold War exist? In retrospect, we can mark its beginning and end, but it lasted for over forty years, with several stages, crises, detentes, in the middle. But the Cold War lasted through all of these, until its founding ideology, communism, was discredited even in its strongholds. Just so, the War on Terror, which would be better named the "War on Islamism" or the "War on Islamo-fascism" will last until its ideology is discredited even in its strongholds.
