Eric. Re...How you pump a column of oil 3000+ feet has got to be neat trick.

I really don't know why you would think it would be difficult. Oil is lighter slightly than water. So with water weighing 1/2 lb/ft, a 3000 ft well, would need a pump with over a 1500 lb pressure rating. You can buy pressure sprayers, at costco, with a 4000 lb rating. Commericial pumps can go over 10,000 lb ratings.
