Of course it's an excellent point....lol, I'm somewhat surprised it's never been raised before. There are many people who choose to remain celibate and live together with parents or siblings as a loving family where no sex is involved. Why shouldn't they be rewarded with similar benefits invoked by homosexual groups. After all, they love and care for each other maybe more so than a husband and wife relationship or gay couple relationship.

I have three aunts and an uncle who live together. They never married. They have been taking care of each other for the last 70 years. They've shared their expenses and shared their incomes. They've been together longer than most marriages. Why should they be penalized when one moves on to a better world?

One more point. What if a friend of mine is dying. Can I apply for a civil union even though neither is gay, and so obtain his pension benefits? Or must I sleep with my friend in front of witnesses who'll be there with gauges to ensure the civil union is actually consummated before awarding the benefits?
