Motorola Inc., the world's second-biggest cell-phone maker, said it increased production in China by a third to 40 million units, of which as much as half were for export.

The commerce ministry estimates China will make 170 million cell phones this year

This is wonderful news if you are a QUALCOMM stock holder. China is building out a nicky new CDMA system.....India is too......and tweaking it's old tech(through GSM1X) to an all CDMA based system and they are rapidly adding 3G capabilities.

As a result, QUALCOMM is hiring new workers:

Dan Sullivan, Qualcomm's executive vice president of human resources, said there are about 450 current openings and the company is on pace to add 1,000 workers by the end of the year. Qualcomm now has about 6,500 employees, with 6,000 of them based in San Diego....

China still heavily relies on the US for the technology that makes some of their growth possible. I noted the other day that someone mentioned that the railroad (I think it was BN) needs to hire 1600 new workers in the US. It appears that the current administration made a nice deal and China agreed to ship it's European bound product across the Pacific to west coast ports, across the NA continent to east coast ports and onto vessels heading for west coast Euro ports.

I haven't seen an article, but good détente if true.

American companies can do well in this environment if they remain innovative and competitive.
