Amy Re..But I do agree with you that the converse isn't necessary true, some care, some don't.

Yes, you are right, it was presumptious of me to assume you, or most people, cared. What amazes me, is the turnaround on the leftist establishment, on that regard. In the 60's, it was love everywhere, now it is, we don't give a damn about the Jews, or how many people Saddam kills and tortures a yr, if GW is against it, we are for it.

I think it's more accurate to say USA is after stability of the region due to the need for oil.

Lets put it this way. If the arab nations get together and say, "Either you allow us to slaughter millions of scumbag Jews or you get no oil"; my guess is there will also be one hell of a pile of dead arabs laying around. We just spent 12 yrs, with the no fly zones in Iraq, keeping Saddam from slaughtering the Shia, and the Shia say they hate us. Does it make sense to you, that we would expend so much to protect, our sworn enemy from being slaughtered, and not protect our friends. Bosnia is another example. We protected the Muslims there also, even though many claim we are against Muslims.

Yes, the government did know the extent of the murders, but took no action.

You will note, that my question was if the allies knew of the extent, and had the ability to stop it. I would contend, that while the allies, knew there were camps, no one kew the exent of the killings. Secondly, for the amount of killing that was presumed going on, the allies felt that, less people would get killed, if they didn't bomb the camps, than if they did. And, who is to say, if the allies bombed the camps, the Germans, wouldn't have killed them some other way. The same is true, for Stalin, and Saddam. No one knew the extent, in Stalin's case, until Soltsenitzen published his book.

The USA's approach isn't too surprising, when you consider the USA's approach with some of the genocides in Africa.

Instead of taking cheap shots, if you would look into the biggest genocide, in Africa lately, Rawanda, you would see that it wasn't the US's fault. The UN, was told about it, and in fact, it was the UN, under Botros Galli's direction, with advice from Annen, who refused to step in and stop it; just as the UN refused to do anything in Bosnia, and Nato, had to do it alone. The UN was set up as a primary force in stopping those kind of incidents, and the UN did nothing. Put the blame where it belongs. Secondly, France has troops in 15 countries in Africa, also, but France, allowed it to happen also. The US has had a minor presence in Africa.
