Very interesting. Of course, these measures are gross and could be sharpened. Internationally, for example, they are trying to substitute Parity Purchasing Power for per capita GDP, but it is a slow go, since it is hard to get a reliable equivalence. Of course, a degree of skepticism kicks in when a party still committed to socialism, however willing to experiment with markets, decides to disparage GDP in favor of socialist and Green considerations. But the concern expressed is not completely unfounded.

In any case, I did not propose a specific measure of "superpower". I merely assume similar conditions to persist for the foreseeable future: that we remain the motor of the world economy, that we field to greatest military force known to man, that we continue to be the linchpin of the international system, that we remain the most desirable destination country for immigrants, that our cultural products remain dominant in world markets, and other such attributes, at least continuing to characterize our situation for the most part.

"You are what your measure." one of my favorite sayings.

Oh come on Rascal. Let's face facts here.

Unless you can find a super advanced and all powerful extraterrestrial civilization gullible enough to enter a treaty of mutual support and defense, it doesn't matter what you count. Sooner or later they are going to clean our clocks ...if you don't declare "Preventive War" while you still can.

Are you just going to hand them our lion's share of the world's capital and resources?

I suppose we could learn the lingo and petition for annexation. ...Although I doubt that will save our clocks.
