I think we have to understand that jobs will move- and power may move with them. There are, however, things that can be done- but they need to be done fast. We need to beef up research and development- and try to fight hard to stay ahead in technology- where we still have some edge. We desperately need to have a nationwide campaign to make education a number one priority. Terrorism? It's nothing compared to the apathy of our citizens when it comes to their children's education. We need to start a "war" on ignorance- a lot of people on SI will be left behind, but, sadly, they are too old to worry about. India's students kick our ass, and they kick our ass because their parents really care about chemistry, and higher math, and biology- and they EVEN care about the humanities. They make their kids study- a lot. We need to do that, or the battle is lost already. It comes down to smarts and science in the end- and if we don't have the gumption to strive in those areas, we don't deserve to "win". Get ready to move to India or China, eventually, if you want to be in a country that is still dynamic.

It's bleak, and I don't think we can turn it around- because there are just too many fat comfy ignorant slobs in America. But I'd love to be wrong.
