They may very well "do" something- but it may make things worse instead of better. The world economy is so entertwined we cannot make waves without having some of the waves slosh back on our shores. We cannot afford to be too protectionist, because so much of our economy is tied to overseas interests. Really, we must be very very careful.

There will be pain. We have lived at the expense of the rest of the world for a long time. We have used most of the world's energy; we have carted off the world's resources for our products. Now the worm turns. Yes, people will scream, but really, how upset can you truly be about this? So we have to downsize, and live a little more wisely, and drive smaller cars, and CONSERVE, and actually be truly conservative, and the rest of the world gets a living wage, and to own refrigerators.
