Probably neither side likes it - pro s-s marriagers are framing this as a Constitutional issue of "equality before the law" so they would like a Supreme Court decision a la Roe v. Wade. Hatch's amendment would head that off and return the debate to the state legislative level, where it properly belongs. But what politician wants to take a stand on a "divisive" issue in an election year?
