Hey Bill,
Now shiaa are screwing iraq regarding new constitution. I smell iran mullahs at work here. Many of the more moderate muslims are sunni(non-wasabi version). In iraq triangle people allying with kurds and even turks could create a powerful 2/3 iraq country. Long shot given arab/kurd and turk/kurd emnity but in terms of progressive outlooks may make more sense than three way solution with iran having veto power thru sistani. This is a quagmire and we(you me and bush admin) should have analysed this in depth before the war so we could have better anticipated the outcome. Of course we could have not gone to war and we would be dealing with saddam.
Where we are now is where we are and how to get from point A to point B is the $64 question. United iraq looks like the least likely postive outcome. If done , it seems to me that it would unravel quickly. Kurds and arabs sharing the oil and the triangle and kurdish regions can make for a viable state, once the saddamites and terrorists are killed. And with turkish support and guarantees which would follow arab/kurdish/turkmen reconciliation might stabilize the area for decades while democracy takes root. Mike
