There'll be more pressure than ever on all of 'em to go after the real crooks. Because if they don't, they'll be hearing "remember Martha" from many folks. Actually, by that logic, when you think about it, the reverse could happen. Think of all those "privileged" (read: well-heeled) people who get special treatment from their brokers. If the SEC now doesn't go after a few more of these types, won't they be seen as hypocritical? What's worse, they'd probably feel more pressure to nail the Marthas of the world as opposed to the Banconvics despite the real problem being the latter. Wouldn't their already scare resources be stretched even thinner? Sure it would be nice to stop all illegal activity in the market, but unless you plan to hire a lot more staff (which is the real solution because the SEC is one of the few organizations that pays for itself in spades) you have to start at the most egregious and work your way down. - Jeff
