Apparantly there is another job report called the household survey which shows robust job creation. Supposedly this is due to the fact that many people who are thought to be jobless are in fact now self employed.

I really don't believe much of any of the figures. The government is telling us there is no inflation, which is totally ridiculous to anyone who shops, or is watching the commodity market or the money supply figures.

I think the government has probably always manipulated the numbers but over the last ten years it has gotten much worse.

Haim,

Re: a possibility that they under report now to be able to exaggerate later toward the election season - just a thought

While this might be the sort of Machiavellianism that Rove would consider, I strongly doubt that the Bushies would hold back on any iota of good news on the economy at this point. They are truly facing an Armageddon of their regime if they cannot stop the fractures and fissures that are now starting to appear in great number among the various "conservative" groups who are taking exception to more and more components of Bush's malignant vision of America's future. Studying the Bush plan calls for the expertise of a toxicologist and a pathologist, not to mention a forensics expert.
