I agree with Mish's view, that rates decrease near term. That makes sense from a fundamental, political, contrarian and intuitive point-of-view. I also wondered what "rabbit out the hat" tricks the Bush/Greenspan duo might pull to get us through November. This is definitely one of them ...

My bet is that the government will soon stop (or at least slow down) topping off the strategic petroleum reserves. They are increasing them quite steadily, and it does put upward pressure on prices.
