Whether globalization will eventually lead to lowering of the standard of living in the USA is an interesting question. I think based on the current structure of the global economy it will.

Right now poorer, population rich, countries, and Japan, seem willing to beggar themselves prostrate at the feet of the US in return for US paper and the resulting economic activity. The key is the US dollar. As long as it holds the illusion of being a store of value the current system can survive.

It's no secret though that big cracks are appearing in the foundation of the US dollar. The pricing of oil in Euro's is particularly ominous.
