Who said it doesn't matter? Of course it matters. It matters also that to remain competitive, GE (or any other company for that matter), not spend more than they have to for any of their manufacturing inputs.

I'm surprised that you, as an investor and a "management consultant," haven't yet figured out how a business functions.
