We can agree wholeheartedly on that.We must chop the Kennedy/Kerry liberal handouts. I would say we need to chop the corporate welfare handouts and [dare I say it) make the military get more efficient, unless... We must decrease taxes to entrepreneurs and corporations starting new endeavors that produce jobs. On that we agree again. But I would stipulate with Kerry that the jobs they create should be in the US, not somewhere else. Finally, we must address the re-industrialization of America. I predict in 5 years that will become a buzzword. On that one, I'm not so sure--we don't need "re-industrialization" we need post-industrialization. That is a much trickier thing, and will require what you say next... Within 10 years our education system will change. It will have to. Most of today's college grads have no definable skill. We need business oriented leaders to get that done. No just "business oriented," but engineer, science and (dare I say it?) people who can think for themselves.Kerry's big economic idea is to tax the rich to maintain the status quo. That is not progress. It is insane. Please don't forget that people said that about Clinton when he raised taxes back in '93. In fact, they said worse, much worse. Phil Graham among others stood on the Senate floor and predicted in no uncertain terms that the tax hike would lead to a depression and a ballooning of the deficit. So much for his prognosticating abilities. He wasn't the only one. But none of the Republican predictions took place. The truth is the government does a lot of things that require money. The most irresponsible thing possible is to underfund the government the way Bush is doing. Bush's tax cuts haven't done squat except feed the housing bubble, inflation of high end goods, and, to some extent, keep the stock market going. And of course increase the deficit and the govt's funding needs enormously. He can blame the War on Terror, but he should make up his mind: are we in a war or not? If we are, he shouldn't be cutting taxes. If we aren't, then maybe he can cut taxes if we really don't need the money for anything else. But the truth is, we do need the money for other things, foremost among them for infrastructure renewal and education. These two things alone could go hand in hand with some imagination, along with jobs and encouraging entrepreneurialism.BTW it was not a windfall. I worked for it. And I, like everyone else my age, have paid annual income taxes for over 40 years. BTW, I wasn't castigating you. You should pay the taxes you owe, no more or less. It is up to the govt decide in the end what that will be, what funding they require and to get it.
