The first operator to add this exclusive premium class coach to its fleet is Heideker Reisen, based in Münsingen in Germany’s Swabian region. Otto Kässbohrer – a coach visionary Setra is releases this “Otto Kässbohrer 100th birthday edition” to honour the man who introduced the first coach with a load-bearing body, the Setra S 8, at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt in 1951 and then developed it to series-production maturity. Vehicles from the Neu-Ulm plant are today among the world’s finest coaches. Otto Kässbohrer (1904 – 1989) was one of the sons of company founder Karl Kässbohrer. His ideas and visions paved the way for coaches to be manufactured with their own load-bearing structure, like passenger cars, rather than mounted on truck chassis. With this improvement, Otto Kässbohrer set the signals for modern coach manufacturing all over the world. On January 26, 2004, the “father of the Setra” would have reached the age of 100. The Setra TopClass 400 “Otto Kässbohrer 100th birthday edition” The 100 jubilee vehicles – which extend throughout the model range from the compact S 411 HD club bus to the S 431 DT double-decker – are hard to surpass in terms of their luxurious interior equipment and state-of-the-art technology; they symbolise the innumerable ideas and innovations and the concept of perfection associated with Otto Kässbohrer. The coaches have a metallic paint finish and display the birthday edition logo on the front panel and the sides. The passenger seats have been upgraded with a metal emblem bearing the Setra logo. The brand name is applied to a board with a noble-metal look in the front entrance area. The steering wheel, gear lever knob, swivelling driver’s seat and courier’s seat are trimmed and upholstered in two-colour nappa leather. The Otto Kässbohrer birthday edition is also equipped with the ESP electronic stability program, a reversing aid with optical display in the folding electric outside mirrors and an energy-absorbing “Solarplus” windscreen, which reduces heat in the cockpit area. When starting the vehicle, the instrument panel display greets the driver with Otto Kässbohrer’s signature and displays the average fuel consumption and average speed during the journey. “TopSky” adjustable glass roof available as an optional extra 20 of these jubilee vehicles, with the exception of the S 411 HD, S 415 HD and S 431 DT, can be equipped as an optional extra with the adjustable TopSky glass roof, the transparency of which creates an unique sense of space inside the coach. The glass roof makes use of an innovative foil technology that allows the light to penetrate when a DC current is applied, but darkens the glass when switched off. When set to “bright”, the glass has a light permeability of 25 percent, which is similar to a normal window. The value falls to around two percent when the roof is darkened, equivalent to typical glacier skiers’ sunglasses. Heideker Reisen buys “Otto Kässbohrer 100th birthday edition“ coaches Coach tour operator Heideker Reisen, based in Münsingen, is purchasing a S 411 HD club coach and a S 415 HDH super high-deck modelboth to this exclusive 4-star premium specification. The family-owned company from the Swabian region of Germany has been a Setra customer since 1953, when it bought its first S 8, and has been extremely loyal to the Setra brand ever since. In August 2001, the company took delivery of the 75,000th Setra coach, a 5-star S 415 HD. More than 70 Otto Kässbohrer edition coaches sold The “Otto Kässbohrer 100th birthday TopClass 400 edition“ is rapidly becoming a best-seller. Says Werner Staib, responsible for the Setra brand within the EvoBus Board of Management: “The Otto Kässbohrer edition is selling extremely well. We’ve taken orders for more than 70 since July, including the 20 coaches with the optional electrically tinted TopSky glass roof.
