Mehphisto, Yes I know what you mean. Edwards message, although slightly more liberal than my personal beliefs, did touch on the crucial issues Americans need to discuss during this campaign. Hopefully, gay rights & Vietnam will not monopolize the debate. Heard the statistics re the unbelieveable 50/50 split in this country. Even the thousands of state legislators have the exact same 50/50 representation. We must break the gridlock in Nov in order to make some progress.

What course do you teach?

It's great to know there are still teachers out there who acknowledge we need drastic changes to our public school system in order to once again educate our children.

So far, the criticisms made of "No Child Left Behind" seem to be the usual "unfunded mandate" rhetoric. I consider that argument weak since taxpayers in USA are already paying far more per pupil than any other country. The assumption that grade school children will learn basic reading & math is an inherent understanding of those taxpayers. Why should more funds be funneled into the system merely to perform the tests necessary for NCLB?
