Lindy got a great thread here and would hate to see it fall apart like so many others on si that started out great but ended up lost in the jungle.

I think it's VERY important that articles and moderators should give significant background on a quoted person's POV - i.e., so-and-so is President of Fireffighters for Kerry.

There's a flip side to that problem. When they do identify a person's affiliation, for example, "So-and-So from Some Think Tank, a conservative think tank covering Whatever," they get accused of using the "c" word. Sure, with Firefighters for Kerry, it's obvious. But with many of these groups, if you identify affiliation, you also have to characterize it or the information is not useful. Damned if you do...
