No, nations should not be solely organized around being number one. Indeed, for the most part, that would be an unattainable ambition, and therefore could not be the common principle of organization. Nations should be organized to increase the welfare of their citizens, through economic development, the rule of law (including civil liberties), and representative government. To that end, modernization is necessary, at as rapid a pace as the society can handle without verging on chaos. I will look at your link, and get back to you.......

I see nothing especially to object to in your link, except the underestimation of the importance of modern systems to increasing agricultural yield, and the failure to note the massive depopulation of the countryside and swelling of the metropolitan areas which has been characteristic of the advanced nations of the 20th century. We continue to export agricultural products, and use "cartelization" to stabilize agricultural prices, which would otherwise mostly fall, employing only about 5% of our population in agricultural activities. Additionally, more and more of our agricultural production is from corporate farming, and that trend is likely to continue. So, yes, we have to be concerned with our agricultural base, and to keep those in the countryside happy, but no, it does not keep them from having to adapt to modern modes of production or from feeling the effects of capitalist forms of finance.........
