I disagree. First of all not every employee is living off his wage. For example teens living with their parents, a two income family when the spouse provides most of the money, or even a person who's minimum wage job is a second job for extra money.

If you say that the employer is obligated to pay a "living wage" (and by that most people don't mean enough money to live but rather enough to live at some standard that they decide is the minimum that is acceptable) then you are saying that people who's work is not worth that amount don't have a right to work.

While one can look at minimum wage, as another transfer to the poor, the program is far better than a lot of the targeted programs, takes a big bite out of class warfare shrills

If the rate is well below the market clearing rate for unskilled labor then it has little positive or negative effect. If it is above what the unskilled labor is worth then it increases the amount of people on unemployment or welfare because it reduces employment.

and really doesn't hurt most employers

As long as it is low enough to not have much in the way of positive effect for the employed person this is true. If its high enough that it would raise the rate paid to some people then that amount will hurt the employer, the marginal employees that get let go because they are not worth the minimum, and the population at large as the minimum wage creates inflationary pressure.
