OPEC doesn't have as much control anymore.

Sorry, but that just shows how little you understand the oil industry.

When supply and demand are as precariously balanced as they are, control of half the world's oil supply is plenty of muscle to do what they want to. And Russia and Venezuela have no incentive, if OPEC raises prices, to be nice to us and start pumping large amounts of their reserves at discount prices.

And since more drilling in Alaska got shot down, of course our dependence on foreign oil grows rather than diminishing. Kerry voted in favor of greater dependence on foreign oil when he voted with the environmental lobby.
