I agree, it would be an incredible achievement. Historic, unimaginable, totally without precedent. And unlikely.

I believe it was our only aim. Asking SA for permission was a real problem, look at what we went through with Turkey, which is supposedly our ally. We had to bribe these countries to use their ground, now we need bribe no one.

Kuwait is not big enough to serve the purpose.

If we maintain permanent and large military bases in Iraq, then I can see why it was worth it. If we bail our military out of Iraq, then it would have served no purpose.
