So you consider the ability to think and to feel to be paramount.

Sentience and sapience are products of consciousness. So would you value a being who is sentient and sapient higher than a zygote which has no consciousness whatsoever?

An armed person is one step removed from being a killer. All he has to do is use the weapon. "One step" can be a very big step.
