Bukowski! Solon, you're hitting all my poetic buttons. At a recent Bennington residency, we were treated to rare footage of Bukowski (I believe it was a Danish documentary). I never had much respect for him as a poet before. I guess I thought, without reading much of his work, that a lot of his popularity was due to his self-destructive alcoholism. But I learned that the man struggled, that writing, and writing well was his first focus. I fell in love with him a little, as readers are wont to do. (And as you've pointed out.)
